The Danish String Quartet By Michael Moriarty I’m a bit more impressed with them than that.
They play in a way that I have only daydreamed of hearing! Here’s one of my favorites. Why “my favorite”? It’s one of many folk melodies they perform that combine both my Norwegian and Irish heritages. In a more, almost unbearably heartbreaking mood, there’s this “Romeser”. Why it brings me to tears?! I wish I knew! It grabs my soul and hurls me back and back and back to way before my birth! It ends with the faintest of pizzicatos. A Nordic/Gaelic love of Death’s other side?! God, how I wish I knew!! With this they again carry me to a land I’ve never really seen before but I know for certain that I have lived there for centuries! The quickest glimpse of this folk side to their flawless productivity is here. And again! Here we have Bosse Nordins Scottish. And here?! A Valse from Lasse! Are you starting to understand? And, finally, there’s Five Sheep, Four Goats. I’m home!!!! Home in a way I have never experienced before. I’m certain there is a place like that for all of us. I just don’t know the billions of possibilities that idea summons up! If they, or any one of them reads this? Perhaps he wouldn’t mind hearing my own, various corners of the musical world here.
