The Earth is Flat Award for July!

Supreme Court Justice Claire L'Heureux-Dube recently gave an interview to the Vancouver Sun. L'Heureux-Dube told the Sun that the push to cut government debt and deficits is one of the greatest threats to human rights in Canada.

Astonishingly enough, L'Heureux-Dube also stated that the protection of equality should supersede short-term economic considerations. She warned that as Federal and provincial governments rush to grapple with burgeoning debt, justice and dignity for all citizens may suffer.

It is comments like these that highlight the real dangers to our judicial system. With people like this at the bench, one can only imagine the dangers of a politicized court system. It's hard to believe that with opinions like these that L'Heureux-Dube hasn't placed politics before real, rational and unbiased justice.

L'Heureux-Dube is correct though perhaps not in the way that she believes. Unless we undertake these 'short-term' economic considerations, we will all be equal. Equally poor. Equally mediocre. Equally guilty.

Future governments should ensure that the people elevated to the highest court in the land rely on rationality not leftist emotions. Justice L'Heureux-Dube, here's my verdict: Guilty on all counts of foolishness. Punishment: A shiny Earth is Flat Award just for you.
