A skeptic contemplates some cautionary tales: Patterns within the archetype and sleeper

Nearly a century ago, in late March of 1928 a series of events were set in motion that would alter the course of global aviation and human history. The vast majority of individuals who either experienced or carefully studied these events found the entirety of their beliefs and worldviews forever changed. Simplistic, fossilized concepts of life and death were upended by what emerged from an unthinkable tragedy - discovering that of all the known mysteries in our universe, there are still many more of imponderable depth. American author John Fuller documents these events in The Airman Who Would not Die, a disturbing and truly captivating historical account.

R-101The close of WWI ushered in a period of unprecedented industry and innovation. Caught up in a whirlwind characterized by limitless competitive risk, its frenzy seemed to collectively erase both recent memories and common sense. A mere 16 years after RMS Titanic capsized in the abysmal depths of the North Atlantic Ocean, the British Empire prepared to launch yet another ill-conceived behemoth: The R-101, a dirigible monstrosity of volatile hydrogen powered by diesel fuel.

From the very start the R-101 was an engineering nightmare, a massive black hole of money, energy, time and human folly. Early test flights revealed several potentially catastrophic design weaknesses, any one of which could spell their demise. In every critical moment, the gravity of its problematic design was downplayed at all levels - governmental and industrial - in order to maintain positive public opinion, and alleviate political, financial and media pressures; the doomed ship's impending commercial launch went forward.

Less than 6 hours into her maiden commercial voyage, the enormous airship was floundering nose-down in a ghastly descent from which it could not recover. Though the crew and passengers were not as numerous as those of Titanic, its tragedy was abhorrent - fully predicted and preventable all the same. It is yet another cautionary tale of the compulsory sacrifice inherent in bloated exceptionalism, a template that has become a well-worn pattern of hubris, misplaced trust, a lack of scientific integrity, communication and accountability - that continues to this very day.

Patterns such as this are set in motion each and every time the questions or dissent are silenced, whatever the reasons may be. It really makes no difference whether the voices of dissent are from a minority of top experts in a given field or from the general population majority. Either way it represents a lack of transparency or honesty, and it is always the first act of a totalitarian mindset. Whether the sacrifice is tasked by an archetype or a sleeper, let there be no confusion on this point.

Many months before the R-101 ever left the hangar for her first test flight, spiritual beings began to manifest - to explain in great detail the exact technical and aeronautical problems with the gigantic airship, warning of the tragedy that would unfold and sparing nothing in their attempts to prevent it. Individuals within the British government and RAF scarcely heard the increasingly urgent warnings, the technical problems from those on the ground: Pilots, aeronautical engineers, designers, journalists - all of whom understood that the numerous frightening messages were, indeed, quite correct.

A pivotal nexus in history nearly a century past still captivates today, conveying a message of extraordinary meaning and value; that powers and minds beyond our own, strive to benefit life and protect its future; that there is no death as we know it. We can only speculate on the nature and energies of such beings - that they appeal to our own unique spirit, our own free will to choose wisely. Things are not always as they seem; I understand just enough to think, it must be soESR
