The discreet elite

By Michael Moriarty
web posted July 7, 2008

The Democrats who became Liberals and now are not only acceptable but profoundly "fashionable" Progressives – Progressives of all kinds, Christian and Jewish and Atheist – they are "patching things up" between their two, formerly warring, presidential candidates, Barack and Hillary. It's now going to be one, big, Progressively happy family again.

This should prove entertaining, watching "Scarlet O'Hara" and "Rhett Butler" still trying to make a "go" of it.

The story that built the now very, very Progressive Democratic Party goes back as far as the American Civil War. This eventual soap opera arose out of the Democratic Party's efforts to live down their Southern, very racist identity. Its belligerent hatred for Republicans -- one Republican in particular, Abraham Lincoln -- this 2008, Progressive effort to hide its political racism and sexism behind a supposedly "united" front against Republicanism  … well! … whew! … Gone With The Wind says as much about the Democratic Party's instability as it did about the Southern Confederacy's self delusion. Should the Progressives win the Presidential election, we have at least four years to watch the Clintons and the Obamas, like the Hatfields and the McCoys, try to get along.

However, if the Clintons are going to remain "part of the action", they must, perforce, swim somewhere in the same, highly visible fishbowl which the Obama's are now trapped in. In other words, Hillary must be at least a high-ranking member of the administration or the Vice President.

I don't think either of these families are freshwater guppies. There will be deep-sea diving for the press … which is always fun for both the public and the press.

CNN engages in such "deep-sea diving" with relish, of course. Its "best political team on television" -- my Gosh, where do I begin? Well, David Gergen, America's virtual compass for centrist navigation, he keeps all the other pundits on course, particularly when they wander too far right or left.

Mr. Gergen's recent advice for Democrats is that the Dream Team of Barack and Hillary becomes increasingly necessary if they want to win!

However, if you want the Dream Team to survive longer than the election itself, well that is entirely another, very indiscreet question. Obama is the new JFK, remember? How long did that Democratic dream last?

Jeffrey Toobin, CNN's legal authority, and Anderson Cooper, these two of the "best political team on television" exchanged mildly veiled indignation over the killing of two illegal immigrants who were breaking and entering a Texas home. Ostensibly a "news story", the acquittal of the killer, a Mr. Horn, by a Texas Grand Jury, particularly in light of the Congressional battle over what to do with illegal immigrants, boy, it's political deep-sea diving, indeed.

"He shot them in the back!" exclaimed Mr. Cooper.

Jeffrey Toobin, with perfect, political correctness, then expressed the similarly appropriate level of worldly resignation, and the two concluded that they don't do that sort of thing in the Big City.

No, the New York Police Department under Progressively Republican, two-term, highly popular Mayor Rudolph Giuliani used to do that sort of thing for New Yorkers.

However, when the Progressive Congress tries to teach Texas, attempts to instruct that state on how to treat illegal aliens as legal aliens, well, in the eyes of Texas and a Texan like Mr. Horn himself, the American Congress becomes a Mexican enemy itself. Texans scurry to The Alamo. They "lock ‘n load" and start acting out and yes, taking the law into their own hands with the obvious approval of a Texas Grand Jury.

Do you see the problem? The eternal Civil War which the Democratic Party will forever be in and remain in as long as its own version of legalized murder, its beloved Roe v. Wade and legalized abortion represent the very prow of this Ship of Progress, do you see the eventual wall of hypocrisy which this "discreet elite" will run itself into?

This Mr. Horn of Texas shot two illegal aliens in the back and Progressive Planned Parenthood's abortionists inject poison into the zygotes or feti or even the heads of "some", full-term infants and the Progressives don't even call the police before they do it, as Mr. Horn did they don't have to. They have a carte blanche license to "discreetly" murder, to "quietly" dispose of helplessly human inconveniences.

The only difference on this issue between Mr. Horn of Texas and the Progressives of the Big City, aside from the innocence of the gestating infants, is discretion. Texas and Texans are decidedly not discreet!

Tragicomically for the Progressives, the Clintons have not been discreet!

Progressive Dixiecrats, like the Southern Clintonites, are almost congenitally indiscreet.

Such possible "indiscretions" amidst the Obama Campaign For Change will eventually ensure the fall of Progressivism. Even the best of hypocrites eventually get caught.

Until then, however, we are destined to be ruled by the discreetest of the elitists.

Oh, by the way, my discreet definition of discreet is "fashionably unforthcoming".

My fashionable definition of discreet, however, might very well prove to be "Progressively dishonest". ESR
