America’s Suicidal Turning Point: Chapter Five: President Ronald Reagan

Ronald Reagan
“The Gipper”

I was a typically blind Democrat when President Ronald Reagan began his administration.

I was foolishly the same thing when it ended.

In short, I was a predictably snobbish, leftwing “Artiste”!

Then the Clintons and their Attorney General, Janet Reno, came along and, while becoming an almost instant Republican, I also found it necessary to leave the United States of America for Canada.

“For attacking Janet Reno,”
declared former friend and head of the ACLU,
 Ira Glasser,
“you will be OSTRACIZED!”

And I was!!

Rather quickly, Ronald Reagan, who like myself had, at one time, been a Democrat, I began to suddenly wake-up!

The increasingly far-left pipe-dreams which the Democrats were selling us had been proven, by many of Governor and President Reagan’s words, to be, if one is at all interested in individual freedom, a suicidal sales-pitch.

What do I make of President Reagan now?

The best President of the United States in my lifetime.

His Democrat contender, Franklin Delano Roosevelt?

Too cunning by half.

FDR’s delay in getting into World War II necessitated the tragedies of Pearl Harbor; and it also enabled many more years of the Holocaust than there should have been.

After Ronald Reagan, for myself at any rate, Harry Truman and his decision to use the atomic bomb on insanely war-hungry, Imperial Japan. The two he dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki not only ended World War II but made any use of such weapons, so far, much too horrifying!

After Harry Truman, my third favorite is President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Beyond those three men?

The Founding Fathers become their own, almost sacredly divine category.

Why?

The American Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. No governing documents in the History of Mankind can equal those achievements.

And now our President Donald Trump?

Once General James N. Mattis left Trump’s administration?!

I, like most would-be Trump fans, am now quite fearfully uncertain.

Why is this President so repeatedly fond of homicidal bullies such as Putin, Kim Jong Un and the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia?!

“Birds of a feather?!”

Their cold-blooded decisions seem to be transforming Trump’s “Nationalism” into a similarly cold disregard for the rest of the world.

No one in the World, except President Trump, seems certain that we’ve heard the last of ISIS, Iran and the still-antagonistic, Neo-Soviet Russia of President Trump’s “friend”, Vladimir Putin.

President Trump’s America is no longer the America, from 1941 till President Reagan, which I had proudly lived in.

America is now a tough-guy, bullying loner which seems to enjoy the increasing distrust and fear which the rest of the world now displays toward the United States.

The politest criticism I can make of President Trump is that he’s proven to be frighteningly “simplistic”.

The accusations about Barack Obama’s “narcissism” seem increasingly applicable to the equally increasing, indisputable and insultingly dismissive egomania of Donald Trump.

Such self-centeredness, at this President’s age, is not alterable even if President Trump himself wanted to change.

And we are only two years into President Trump’s administration.

I desperately hope that former Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, runs in the Republican Presidential Primary.

No one in recent decades has been as impressively clear and eloquently American as Ambassador Nikki Haley!

Yes, because of her and her alone, it is time for a female President of the United States! ESR
